About The Position

The Healthcare Supervisor will guide and be responsible for the general health and safety of campers and staff.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years old.
  • Completed 2 years of Nursing School, or current license in the state of Indiana as a registered nurse, emergency medical technician, paramedic or equivalent.
  • Training in current first-aid techniques.
  • Experience working with children and adults.
  • Readiness and ability to adapt to camp work situations.
  • Ability to make immediate and appropriate decisions in a crisis and deal with emergency situations.
  • Must hold membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for an extended period.
  • Ability to lift to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to seasonal weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains contact with physicians and with local hospital facilities; gives first aid in cases of illness and accidents as directed by physician; takes responsibility for calling the physician when advisable; accompanies campers and staff on trips to physician’s office and/or hospital.
  • Requisitions necessary equipment and supplies before and during camp season, keeping proper inventory of such supplies.
  • Maintains first aid equipment for units, dining hall, kitchen, waterfront, and key locations in camp; provides first aid supplies for trips.
  • Establishes and maintains regular infirmary hours. Cleans and sets up infirmary for start of camp and cleans inventories infirmary at end of camp.
  • Screens incoming campers and collects, reviews, and keeps health cards; records all treatment and other health information; notifies staff members of health precautions of campers (and other staff) when indicated.
  • Notifies camp director when parents should be advised of serious illness or accident.
  • Completes and keeps on file necessary reports such as daily treatment log; insurance claim forms, health department reports, and other required reports; submits these to camp director for council files at close of camp.
  • Responsible for proper disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
  • Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and amongst the membership.
