About The Position

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) is seeking a Corporate & Investment Banking Associate to join our Healthcare Coverage team. Requirements

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with deep knowledge of valuation techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to present ideas clearly and confidently in both written and verbal formats.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and ability to interpret complex financial statements.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to evolving processes.
  • BA/BS degree required.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in investment banking, corporate finance, or related field.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • FINRA Series SIE, 79, and 63 required (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe).

Responsibilities

  • Client Engagement: Support senior bankers in managing client relationships, identifying strategic opportunities, and driving cross-sell initiatives across SMBC’s product suite.
  • Origination & Marketing: Lead preparation of pitches, marketing materials, and innovative financing ideas across the capital structure.
  • Financial Analysis: Develop and maintain advanced financial models, perform valuation analyses, and interpret financial statements to support transaction execution and client recommendations.
  • Market & Sector Research: Monitor industry trends, analyze competitive dynamics, and contribute to sector-specific insights for client presentations and strategic discussions.
  • Deal Execution: Manage due diligence processes, coordinate documentation, and oversee internal approval workflows for lending and capital markets transactions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product partners (Debt Capital Markets, Derivatives, Leveraged Finance, Equity Capital Markets, Cash Management, Leasing Finance, Trade Finance, Lending Management) to deliver integrated solutions tailored to client needs.
