About the Department The Medical/Surgical Department at Lakewood Health System provides comprehensive inpatient care to a diverse patient population. Our team works collaboratively to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs) are essential to maintaining smooth daily operations, supporting clinical teams, and ensuring timely communication across the unit. Mission for Position The Health Unit Coordinator supports the Medical/Surgical team by managing departmental communication, maintaining accurate medical records, and performing essential clerical and unit support tasks that enhance patient care efficiency and team coordination. Position Summary The Health Unit Coordinator supports the Medical/Surgical team by managing essential clerical and communication tasks that keep the unit running smoothly. This includes answering phones and call lights, assisting patients and visitors, maintaining electronic health records, processing provider orders, and organizing charts and supplies. The HUC ensures timely communication between staff and departments and helps with basic unit support tasks such as restocking and preparing rooms. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, customer-service focused, and comfortable working in a busy hospital environment. Position Type This is a casual position, scheduled every sixth weekend with rotating holidays. The primary purpose of this role is to provide coverage for staff vacation and illness needs. Weekday shifts are 12 hours, and weekend/holiday shifts are 10 hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, emergent, and non-emergent settings

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Secretary Certificate or Health Unit Coordinator training preferred
