Key Position Details: This position will support two units and cover the Mother Baby: Unit 2000 (Labor and Delivery) and Units 2300/2400 (Postpartum). The expectation is that staff will be fully trained on both units and able to work independently in each area. The labor and delivery Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), does admit patients, schedule OR cases, pages providers and gives newborn report when babies are born, and performs some of the patient registration tasks when patient registration is not available on our unit. HUC Casual Position in Mother Baby Regular Casual Status: To maintain regular casual part-time status, a HUC must be available to work two holidays per year, with at least one being Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s. They are also required to work two shifts in every four-week schedule—one shift must be on a weekend, and the other must be an evening or night shift, as long as those shifts are available. This rule applies strictly unless a HUC has requested and received a leave of absence. For all Regular Casual HUCs, working an evening or night shift during the weekend counts toward both the evening/night and weekend shift requirement for that open shift. (Specifically for this policy, HUCs will get credit for working 3pm-11pm on Friday and 11pm-7am on Sunday.) Failure to meet these shift requirements will lead to progressive discipline. FTE 0.0 (Casual position) 8-hour day/evening Occasional weekends Job Description: Assists with coordination of care of patients in conjunction with the nursing staff, providers and the multidisciplinary team. In addition, assists with clerical duties including patient admissions, transfers, discharge and patient registration.
