About The Position

This is a Health Support Technician position in the School Health Program that includes clerical work to support the school health nursing staff under the direct supervision of the Community Health Nursing Consultant. This position also provides assessment of student health needs, referrals for services, and liaisons between schools, parents, and the School Health LPN’s. The incumbent is responsible for routine travel to perform their job duties

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.
  • Skill in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in the clinic and/or school health program.
  • At least six months of verifiable medical front office, medical records, administrative assistant, or medical assistant experience, in a Public Health setting, Pediatric Office, Primary Care, Acute Care, Home Health or School Health setting.
  • Willing to present for emergency duty before, during and or after disaster activation which can include beyond normal work hours
  • Valid Florida driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Communicates daily with the SH team on day-to-day work duties.
  • Reviews and updates health profiles on children to include: the Florida DOH 680 forms and student physicals.
  • Notifies school personnel as needed of changes that need to be made within the school FOCUS system.
  • Informs schools, who will in turn, inform parents when their student is out of compliance for enrollment requirements by phone or letter.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication and relationships with the School District of Osceola County school health staff to ensure quality school health services.
  • Serves as a resource person for teachers, health aides, students and parents.
  • Coordinates screening and surveillance activities within the schools.
  • Ensures timely communication of planned screenings and works with school staff in planning and implementing screenings as appropriate.
  • Assists with referrals of individuals and families to appropriate local and state agencies.
  • Contacts private/charter schools yearly regarding mandatory screenings services available and required enrollment documents.
  • Completes statistical reports and assists DOH school health nurses and documents as needed.
  • Compiles enrollment requirement information to track compliance. This will include tracking and following up by mail or phone to ensure compliance.
  • Assists with data collection for the Compulsory Report, Annual Health Services Report, Biennial School Health Services Plan, Kindergarten and Seventh Grade Assessment and Validation Report.
  • Assists with other functions related to school health including creating and maintaining appropriate databases, assisting with developing material and agendas for trainings, reviews, and meetings.
  • Prepares and participates in School Health audit and Back to School events.
  • Plans and participates in health promotion and disease prevention programs related to school children, school personnel and the community.
  • Assists with development of educational and training material as appropriate.
  • Enters Employee Activities Records (EARS) for the School District of Osceola County school health staff on time and accordance with agency policy.
  • Maintains records of daily activities and work performed.
  • Responsible for timely submission of timesheets and EARS and certification.
  • Required to attend all staff meetings, quarterly School Health conference calls and one-on-ones.
  • Completes mandatory trainings as deemed necessary.
  • Provides advanced notice for time requests (2 weeks) unless an emergency.
  • Maintains and inventory of school materials, educational materials and office supplies, ordering when needed.
  • Prepares school health nursing travel itineraries and vouchers for reimbursement of travel expenses.
  • Assists the school health nurses with entering data regarding screening and compliance referrals to be followed up on by the School District of Osceola County staff.
  • Handles school health telephone and email inquiries, returning both calls and emails within 48 hours.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Information Custodian responsibilities including maintaining information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules, regulations, and Department of Health Security Policy 3 and associated Protocols and Procedures as it relates to Information Custodian, Delegation of Authority. This responsibility is to be adhered to 100% of the time.
