About The Position

The Health Support Technician is under the direct supervision of the Public Health Services Manager. This position will assist the Dental Hygienist in the School-Based Dental Sealant Program in Charlotte County schools. This position is responsible for collecting data and entering data into state databases. The role also involves outreach and education, serving as a Community Liaison for the dental sealant program, staffing community events, and helping families navigate the healthcare system by providing referrals to a "dental home" for necessary follow-up or additional care.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Statutes, Rules and Regulations that pertain to the program
  • Knowledge of dental terminology
  • Knowledge and experience in working with children
  • Ability to interact professionally with other DOH staff and the public and provide excellent customer service
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the internet and computer systems such as Microsoft Office and entering data into a database
  • Ability to accurately document patient records
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records and other data management systems
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities
  • Ability to prepare records and reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, and sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
  • A valid Florida driver’s is required
  • Must be comfortable interacting with children

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Eaglesoft Software a plus
  • Knowledge of HMS State of Florida a plus
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish and/or Creole is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Distribute and collect consent forms
  • Review all documents for positive consent to provide services for each child participant, confirming parent/guardian signature
  • Effectively interact on a daily basis with preschool and school age children, addressing questions, fears, and behavioral issues
  • Accurately document services provided to children in HMS and SEALS (Sealant Efficiency Assessment for Locals and States) software
  • Retrieve client information from FLMMIS and FLSHOTS
  • Review insurance information for billing purposes
  • Accurately complete mandated forms
  • Represent the Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County in a positive and informative manner, using an interpreter when necessary
  • Effectively interact with school personnel, including school administrators, teachers, custodial staff, and school health personnel
  • Ensure reports are submitted in a timely manner as determined by the State School-Based Dental Sealant Program
  • Represent DOH-Charlotte at school functions; interact effectively with parents/guardians, students, community members, school administrators, school health staff, and teachers
  • Serve as a runner in the schools when taking children to and from their classrooms
  • Assist Dental Hygienist with oral health education and screenings
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and work with other sealant staff and supervisor to address opportunities
  • Provide back-up to the dental clinic as needed
  • Serve as a Community Liaison: Acts as a point of contact for schools, community agencies, and the general public regarding the dental sealant program.
  • Staff Community Events: Represents the program at community events and health fairs to raise awareness about available dental services.
  • Helps Navigate the Healthcare System: Assists families in navigating the complexities of the healthcare system and provide referrals to a "dental home" (a local dentist) for necessary follow-up or additional care
