About The Position

We are looking for a Unit Manager to plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, procedures, activities, and staff of the Health & Safety Unit within the EHS Team. To effectively lead and support technical and behavioral compliance with all Health & Safety related regulations and drive activities for a safe and environmentally sound workplace. To remain up to date with EHS related laws and regulations, communicate timely with the workforce and support modification of company documents and/ or practices to ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state and local laws.

Requirements

  • (Required) bachelor's degree
  • (Required) 5+ years of related experience as an EHS professional in a manufacturing environment
  • (Required) good command of written and spoken English
  • Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Chemistry - Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
  • Law and Government - Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Active Listening & Speaking - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times; talking to others to convey information effectively
  • Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Must be able to frequently move about the manufacturing plant campus, general office environments, production areas, and occasionally ascend/descend stairs
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Must be able to position self to file documents including the top and bottom drawers of file cabinets
  • Must be able to occasionally move office equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • (Preferred) occupational safety and health major or advanced degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Function as a lead advocate for TP’s “Safety Always” culture and to actively support and live safety excellence
  • Execute the company’s objectives and strategies related to EHS to ensure full compliance
  • Manage, mentor, and develop Health & Safety staff; assess performance and assign project work
  • Support the development of EHS policies and practices and implement/maintain compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems fully consistent with federal, state, local and corporate requirements
  • Support and coordinate regulatory submittals, permit applications, citation rebuttals and other related correspondence
  • Actively support and coordinate all audit activities and lead the remediation of all significant audit findings, adverse events and drive interim and long-term solutions and avoidance
  • Support the maintenance of emergency response procedures in accordance with applicable laws to identify the potential for and respond to accidents and emergency situations including reporting and investigation
  • Drive continuous improvement in accident and incident rates throughout the TP campus and support the development of proactive programs and effective implementation
  • Implement initiatives to reduce the level of work-related accidents and/ or occupational hazards
  • Coordinate and actively support periodic training to update TP leadership on their roles in the maintenance of optimal standards of safety & health
  • Actively support initiatives to ensure the TP campus is free from hazardous substances which may be chemical, physical or biological in nature
  • Actively support the effective management of waste materials and products, to appropriately dispose of them, and to ensure a reduction in the production and discharge of waste
  • Support and coordinate the applications for and receipt of necessary permits
  • Understand the manufacturing process, the product and its composition, and the machines and systems on site. Support development of procedures for detection, prevention, and elimination of physical, chemical, or other related product and machine hazards
  • Visibly support positive employee perception of the company’s personal concern for their well-being
  • Engage in an effective collaborative approach with the manufacturing and maintenance leadership
  • Fully support the facilities’ ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification efforts.
  • Lead and drive the plant safety committees and hold participants accountable for results
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
