About The Position

Cleveland‑Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Health & Safety Specialist at our Warren, Ohio facility. This role provides leadership and technical expertise to support a proactive, prevention‑based approach to occupational health and safety. The Health & Safety Specialist serves as an effective facilitator and trusted advisor to leadership and employees, ensuring strong safety performance, OSHA compliance, and continuous improvement across the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3–5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Experience working in a manufacturing facility
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, promote teamwork, earn trust, and lead by example
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field
  • Professional safety certification (CSP, CIH, ASP, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and support the company and site Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention Program
  • Engage with employees at all levels of the organization to identify, address, and resolve health and safety concerns
  • Support the Cleveland-Cliffs health and safety programs, protocols, and management systems.
  • Participate in the Joint Safety and Health program with local union and company leadership.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor to line managers and supervisors, supporting execution of safety leadership responsibilities
  • Investigate, review, and respond to employee safety and health issues, concerns, and improvement suggestions
  • Communicate injuries and safety-related incidents to operations leadership and the Manager of Health, Safety, and Security, as directed
  • Participate in and lead injury and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development
  • Support and participate in regulatory inspections, as assigned
  • Develop, conduct, and coordinate safety training for employees, new hires, contractors, and vendors
  • Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring related to safety initiatives, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices
  • Collect, analyze, and trend safety data (e.g., injuries, illnesses, near‑misses, work orders, audits, inspections, investigations)
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule, including extended hours and weekends, as operational needs require
