About The Position

The Ecovyst Health & Safety Specialist is a key contributor to the safe and compliant operation of chemical manufacturing and industrial service sites. This role is responsible for implementing, sustaining, and continuously improving site-level health, safety, environmental, and process safety programs in alignment with OSHA PSM requirements, EPA regulations, and Ecovyst corporate standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related discipline — or equivalent professional experience in chemical operations
• 3–5+ years of H&S experience in chemical, petroleum refining, or process manufacturing environments
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), HazCom, and general industry safety standards
• Direct experience working with high-hazard materials including corrosives, reactives, or toxic chemicals
• Demonstrated ability to lead incident investigations using RCA tools and drive corrective actions to closure
• Proficiency in OSHA recordkeeping, regulatory reporting, and safety management documentation
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to influence across all levels of the organization

Nice To Haves

• Active professional safety certification: CSP (Certified Safety Professional), ASP (Associate Safety Professional), OHST, or equivalent
• Experience with sulfuric acid operations, catalyst manufacturing, or industrial chemical services
• Familiarity with EPA RMP (40 CFR Part 68) and SPCC compliance programs

Responsibilities

• Champion and sustain all 14 elements of OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) across site operations, including PHAs, operating procedures, mechanical integrity, pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs), and incident investigation.
• Coordinate and actively participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), HAZOPs, and What-If reviews for new and existing chemical processes involving sulfuric acid and other high-hazard materials.
• Oversee and support the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure all operational, equipment, and procedural changes are assessed and approved before implementation.
• Perform routine field safety observations, JHA/JSA reviews, and risk assessments across production, maintenance, and loading/unloading operations.
• Ensure safe handling, storage, transfer, and transportation of hazardous chemicals — including corrosives, reactives, and toxics — in accordance with OSHA HazCom (29 CFR 1910.1200), DOT, and EPA requirements.
• Maintain accurate Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical inventories, and threshold quantity (TQ) tracking for PSM and RMP-covered processes.
• Support EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) compliance activities, including worst-case and alternative release scenario documentation.
• Monitor chemical exposure risks and implement industrial hygiene controls, including air monitoring, PPE programs, and exposure assessments.
• Lead or support thorough investigations of safety incidents, near misses, process safety events, and chemical releases using structured root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies such as TapRooT, 5-Why, or Bow-Tie analysis.
• Develop, assign, track, and verify the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) arising from incidents, audits, and inspections.
• Maintain accurate OSHA recordkeeping (OSHA 300, 300A, 301 logs) and manage regulatory reporting obligations to OSHA, EPA, and applicable state agencies.
• Develop and maintain site emergency response plans (ERPs), including chemical spill and release procedures, and coordinate regular drills and tabletop exercises.
• Design and deliver practical, operations-focused safety training covering topics such as LOTO, confined space entry, hot work, electrical safety, chemical exposure prevention, contractor safety, and emergency response.
• Maintain training records and ensure compliance with all mandatory regulatory and site-specific training requirements for hourly, salaried, and contractor personnel.
• Act as a visible, credible, and approachable safety leader on the plant floor 
• Partner with supervisors, team leads, and operators to embed safety into standard operating procedures (SOPs), toolbox talks, and shift handover processes.
• Lead or participate in safety committees, safety walks, and employee engagement programs to support a proactive, zero-harm safety culture.
• Administer and enforce contractor safety management programs, including pre-qualification reviews, safety orientations, permit-to-work (PTW) compliance, and field oversight.
• Conduct periodic contractor performance evaluations and communicate safety expectations prior to and during site work activities.
