About The Position

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for driving Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance, culture, and performance across multiple Peeler facilities in the Pacific Northwest. This role serves as a strategic partner to operations, acting as the on-the-ground expert for EHS programs, audits, training, and incident management. The ideal candidate will establish a home base at one Peeler site (ideally a Washington State site such as Rochester, Curtis, or Tacoma) while providing hands-on support and routine travel to surrounding locations. This individual ensures that all facilities operate in alignment with regulatory requirements and Stella-Jones’ internal EHS and Quality (QA/M1003) management systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health (or a related field) plus 2 years of industrial safety work experience
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus 5 years of industrial safety work experience
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office
  • Significant experience in implementing safety management systems or programs preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to train and educate staff on environmental & safety protocols and regulations
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA-authorized safety certifications applicable to industrial or wood products manufacturing, such as OSHA 30-hour General Industry, OSHA 511, or OSHA 510

Responsibilities

  • Lead EHS and QA activities across multiple Peeler facilities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local regulations.
  • Conduct facility inspections, audits, and assessments to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee EHS permit applications, renewals, and regulatory documentation.
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve EHS and QA policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Manage and support the QA M1003 management system at assigned locations.
  • Deliver and coordinate EHS/QA training for supervisors, hourly employees, and leadership teams.
  • Provide guidance and direction to plant managers, supervisors, and employees regarding safety expectations and environmental compliance.
  • Support development and reinforcement of a strong safety culture through engagement, communication, and visible leadership.
  • Lead or support investigations for accidents, near misses, environmental incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely EHS reporting, recordkeeping, and documentation in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participate in companywide safety programs and initiatives.
  • Regular travel throughout assigned Peeler facilities in the Pacific Northwest is required.
