We’re seeking a dedicated HSE Specialist to join our site team, reporting directly to the Site HSE Manager. In this pivotal role, you’ll drive the development, management, and execution of site health and safety initiatives, ensuring a safe and compliant workplace for all. You’ll be at the heart of our operations, collaborating closely with Quality and Food Safety teams, and focusing on safety and industrial hygiene programs. As an HSE Specialist, you’ll not only ensure compliance with national and local HSE laws, regulations, and Corporate HSE Standards—you’ll be a champion for our Mars HSE Culture. You’ll translate and execute the site’s HSE strategy, as set by the Site HSE Manager and Corporate HSE Team, and continuously improve site policies and procedures in alignment with our company’s vision, mission, and values. Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Proven leadership in driving safety or environmental programs within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong regulatory knowledge and expertise, including EPA, OSHA, and DOT standards

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience implementing safety programs in a manufacturing setting
  • ASP / CSP certification or ability to achieve ASP within 12 months
  • Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, job hazard analysis, and Process Hazards Analysis
  • Experience with confined space assessment and entry procedures
  • Basic knowledge of food manufacturing and GMP practices

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy assigned HSE Standards as they apply to the site
  • Lead efforts to measure and improve critical HSE programs
  • Implement risk assessment and risk prediction processes, driving mitigation measures to lower associate risk and ensuring clear communication across the site
  • Manage construction and contractor safety activities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations and standards
  • Deliver training and coaching to ensure all site associates understand and engage with HSE expectations
  • Maintain a continuous “audit ready” state of compliance with company and governmental HSE Standards
  • Investigate all HSE-related incidents, utilizing specific tools to drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Serve as a technical expert alongside the Site HSE Manager, providing expertise and coaching in all areas of HSE, including capital project review and risk management for non-capital modifications
