About The Position

The Health Physicist provides operational and technical coordination of daily Radiation Protection evolutions. Additionally, establishes and maintains programs for the effective monitoring and trending of current radiological control practices and actively participates in the development of new processes and technologies. Interfaces with other Station departments to ensure efficient coordination of their activities with the Station’s Radiation Protection strategies.

Requirements

  • Navy Nuclear ELT with at least 7 years related work experience and NRRPT Certification or At least 9 years related work experience and NRRPT Certification (including at least 2 years of Radiation Protection experience)
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical understanding of nuclear plant processes / programs / regulations including a detailed knowledge of Radiation Protection
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Radiation Protection Supervisors in the direction of day-to-day activities of the Radiation Protection personnel including log review and coordination with other station work groups
  • Develop and maintain Radiation Protection Department and procedures
  • Coordinate the implementation of the Station’s Radioactive Waste Management; ALARA; Radioactive Material Control; Dosimetry; Respiratory Protection and Effluent & Radiological Environmental Programs
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the above programs and produce various trend reports
  • Represent Radiation Protection in the Station Oversight Committee (SOC)
  • Act as Contract Coordinator for various Radiation Protection Contracts
  • Support Outage planning in the development and execution of radiological support plans
  • Assist in the development and oversight of Radiation Protection training for Technicians and Radiation Workers
  • Coordinate special projects
  • Prepare Corrective Action Resolutions, Evaluations and conduct 50.59 screens
  • Perform FDA Interdisciplinary reviews
  • Performs reviews for radiological impact on SORC and SORC subcommittee procedures.
  • Interface with external organizations such as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, INPO and American Nuclear Insurers.
  • Participate in the Vistra Nuclear Emergency Organization as assigned.
