About The Position

The Health & Nutrition Manager oversees the health and nutrition components of the Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This position ensures that children’s health, nutritional, and wellness needs are met in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, State of Maine Licensing Rules, USDA, and CACFP requirements. The Health & Nutrition Manager plays a key leadership role within the Management Team and works collaboratively with program staff, families, healthcare providers, and community partners to support the well-being of children and families throughout York County. The ideal candidate is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young children and families and is committed to promoting health, nutrition, and overall wellness in early childhood settings. This individual brings strong leadership skills, a collaborative approach, and a dedication to quality and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Nursing (RN, LPN, MPH), Public Health, or a related field
  • Experience working in a pediatric or child‑focused setting
  • Minimum of five years of related experience, including supervisory or management responsibilities
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and staff supervision skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with child database systems preferred
  • Willingness to participate in job‑related training and professional development

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with program staff, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure children’s health and nutritional needs are met
  • Develop and oversee special diet plans and Individual Health and Nutrition Plans as needed
  • Complete the USDA annual contract and oversee CACFP and health monitoring requirements
  • Provide training, technical assistance, and guidance to staff as needed or directed
  • Ensure full implementation of Head Start Performance Standards, licensing regulations, and agency policies and procedures
  • Participate as an integral member of the Management Team, including monitoring, reporting, program self‑assessment, planning, and decision‑making
  • Establish, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with community agencies and healthcare providers to support program goals and advance the agency’s mission
