About The Position

Health Information Management Technician 1 - Limited Term Daily coordination of Health Information Management data and indexing. Ensure its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper and electronic forms. Use EHR to categorize patient information to maintain patients’ medical records and treatment histories. Ensure accurate and timely indexing of patient health records. This role is on-site (100%) in Sacramento, CA (95811). Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Duration: 3 months with potential to be extended.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in Health Information Management
  • 1-2 years experience in a clinical, hospital or healthcare related environment
  • Knowledge of healthcare information management practices and principles and experience with indexing patient health information within an electronic health record management application.

Responsibilities

  • Review and scan documents within OnBase and ensure accuracy of patient medical records
  • Review release of information forms for accuracy and assist clients with completing the forms appropriately.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and Release of Information policies and procedures
  • Follows HIPAA policy and regulatory management procedures for protected health information.
  • Follows all implemented processes to ensure the compliancy with HIPAA regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains surveillance of appropriate indexing of patient health records.
  • Identifies and assists in problem solving patient health information issues and release of information requests.
  • Demonstrates a caring and interested manner of customer engagement.
  • Listens carefully to patients and co-workers questions and concerns, handles telephone calls and in-person contacts in a friendly and courteous and sensitive manner.

  • Responsible for distributing release of information requests to patients, physicians and clinical leadership in accordance with rules and regulations.
  • Reviews medical records and indexing for completeness, accuracy and conformance to accepted accreditation standards.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Refrain from discussing patient or personal matters within patient hearing or other employees who are not actively involved in patient care.
  • Other administrative and patient record maintenance activities as assigned
