About The Position

The Health Information Lead is responsible for the support and training of Health Information Management (HIM) Technicians. Supports and assists with the day-to-day operations surrounding record completion activities. The HIM Lead is responsible for rounding with HIM technicians on a daily basis, responding to questions, concerns, or obstacles. Communicates with HIM Management to ensure satisfaction of key performance indicators and staff productivity.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the last five years in full-time health information management, with record completion experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to set priorities and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records systems such as EPIC and the use of other software, including Excel and Microsoft.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all members of the hospital and clinical staff.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency in meeting deadlines and supporting the needs of health information staff and hospital personnel for timely information.
  • Ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • RHIT or RHIA preferred.
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train Health Information Technicians to review patient electronic medical records to ensure accuracy and completion, generate weekly incomplete/delinquent deficiency reports, and communication strategies with hospital leadership.
  • Partners with medical staff to facilitate timely and accurate record completion, consistent with regulatory requirements.
  • Meets established key performance indicators, turnaround times, and productivity standards.
  • Rounds with HIM staff on a daily basis to ensure questions and/or obstacles are addressed and reports variations to the manager.
  • Assists in the workflow design and monitoring of health information functions and works with leadership to refine as needed.
  • Generates and prepares clinical and administrative reports as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with leadership, including hospital CEO’s and others, on HIM-related issues.
  • Supports HIM leadership team with other duties as assigned.
