Job Summary HIM Specialists organize and maintain health information both in paper files and in electronic systems. They check data for accuracy, assign codes for insurance reimbursement, record information and keep file folders and electronic databases up to date. Some of the data they manage includes patient information, medical histories, physician exams, test results, treatments and services provided. In addition to their clerical duties, records specialists often consult with health care professionals to make sure information is accurate. They must also follow best practices for security and patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience in customer service.
  • 1+ years of experience in the medical field.
  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • Customer Service skills and training.
  • English: Advanced
  • Spanish: Preferred
  • Creole: Preferred
  • Able to rotate weekends, holidays, shifts and center location according to company needs.

  • Relevant or any other job-related vocational coursework preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage health information data.
  • Maintain the medical record. Treatment outcomes. Status to nurse-in-charge.
  • Responsible for ordering medical supplies according to the department's needs.
  • Able to rotate weekends, holidays, shifts and center location according to company needs.
  • Participates in meetings of staff and department meetings.
  • Shares acquired knowledge and learning.
  • Consistently reports for duty on time.
  • Keeps patient’s information private and limits conversation of a personal nature in patient’s presence.
  • Degree of teamwork and cooperation with personnel from other departments.
  • Check medical records and follow up obtaining missing results prior to the patient's appointment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
