Health Information Management Assistants II perform a variety of journey level clerical duties pertaining to the processing of electronic and paper based inpatient, outpatient, and behavioral health medical records. Duties include responding to inquiries and requests for information from patients, families, and staff; generating and processing requests for information from various legal and regulatory agencies; and preparing legal documents such as birth and death certificates. In addition, Health Information Management Assistants II possess significant knowledge of departmental policies and legal mandates; serve as a resource to staff; review records for content, accuracy, completeness, and compliance; prepare records for regulatory agencies and provide legal testimony as to records authenticity; process outpatient behavioral health paper based medical records including filing, electronic chart tracking, data entry of medical record information into vendor provided storage software; and resolve errors and complete records processing through scanning and indexing documents with an on-line archiving system. The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents who are experiencing major mental illness or substance abuse related issues. DBH provides mental health and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services to all age groups, with a primary emphasis on treating children/youth who may be seriously emotionally disturbed, adults who are experiencing a serious and persistent mental illness, and individuals who are experiencing substance use disorders.
