About The Position

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Health Information Associate for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton, Illinois to assist in the planning, organizing, and directing of the day-to-day operating activities in the Health Information Systems. Participates in the review, correction, preparation and maintenance of the patient clinical files and related statistical records and reports in accordance with the American Medical Records Association (AMRA). Attends weekly court hearings.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two (2) years of college and one (1) year of health-related office experience OR completion of high school and three (3) years of health-related office experience.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers, hardware, and software applications.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the planning, organizing, and directing of the day-to-day activities in the Health Information systems.
  • Gathers information and writes responses to inquiries regarding current and discharged patients.
  • Reviews documents submitted from the living units for appropriateness and completeness for patients with upcoming court hearings.
  • Reviews, files, and determines eligibility of services for Medicare Part B covered patients.
  • Assists immediate supervisor in planning, organizing, and coordinating day-to-day activities in the Medical Records Department.
  • Reviews files for discharged patients for completion.
  • Makes necessary arrangements to state burials. Obtains copies of death certificates and forwards to appropriate agencies.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
