About The Position

Your Role: In this highly technical, fast-paced, and rewarding position, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide the very best care for patients. The primary purpose of the Health Informaticist (HI) is to research, design, build, test and maintain reports, dashboards and other data related requests. The HI will participate in and may lead team projects and initiatives, mentor and onboard new team members, and serve as an expert for the Epic reporting team.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare informatics, nursing, or other related field preferred. Equivalent work experience in healthcare can replace the educational requirement.
  • Certification in one or more Epic clinical applications preferred.
  • Applicable Epic Cogito BID certifications strongly preferred or obtained within the first six months of employment.
  • Prior work experience as a Registered Nurse or other clinical role is preferred. If licensed, maintains current licensure.
  • One or more years of experience implementing or supporting electronic health record applications preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement certification, PMP or other project management certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure work availability during customer business hours, 8-5 CST.
  • Long hours may be required for resolution of system issues impacting patient care.
  • Weekend availability may be expected for system upgrades, maintenance, or technical issues.
  • Monitor and work assigned tickets and projects to resolution.
  • Initiate, coordinate and resolve known issues and provide timely, effective, and professional customer support.
  • Forward to the correct group for additional remediation.
  • Adhere to the deployment of changes following defined MHS Change Control workflows.
  • Manage and work tickets and projects, including scoping, planning, designing, determining resource requirements, building, validating and implementing based on customer input.
  • Understand and articulate user needs and problems and determine feasibility of solutions, using clinical knowledge and hospital experience.
  • Collaborate and build consensus with stakeholders ensuring convergence at all times under the guidance of the Team Leads.
  • Create system specifications from user requirements and maintains current detailed system documentation for assigned requests.
  • Help establish priorities of projects for application team in conjunction with team leadership.
  • Personally complete all aspects of a project in a reliable, accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain reporting related Epic certifications and other relevant clinical certifications.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and inform leadership of all events pertaining to the operations of assigned requests.
  • May be asked to represent or present assigned application projects to system Committees, Cabinets, Congresses, etc. communicating for system initiatives and approvals.
  • Perform or ensure system maintenance and testing is complete for requested changes, and for all updates/new releases for all assigned applications.
  • Assist with determining how a new system, upgrade, or new component can best meet the needs of the users.
  • Present demonstrations of build and new functionalities within applications to peers, end users and leaders.
  • Communicate the deployment for new builds, changes, upgrade features and/or training for team and end users.
  • Continually look for opportunities for improvement in day-to-day workflow.
  • Bring ideas forward for approvals and create new or optimized standard operating practices adhering to the best practices of MHS Health Informatics.
  • Identify and report risks and issues to leadership in a timely manner with resolution or recommended resolution.
  • Identify and develop solutions for new and unfamiliar challenges.
  • Develop new skills and teach others.
  • Be accountable for your performance.
  • Continually assesses educational needs of self in relation to technology solutions.
  • Plan and contribute to formal and informal education for self.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
