About The Position

This is an SES Health Educator position working for the Lee County Health Department. This is specialized work under the direction of the Nutrition Program Director. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and provisions of nutrition services of the WIC site. This position performs diverse duties, manages multiple deadlines, and exercises a high level of independent judgment and initiative.  This position requires the ability to effectively collaborate with others to facilitate the successful completion of administrative functions and special projects.  This postion is expected to perform the duties and responsiblities in an organized and highly professional manner and must be able to maintain confidentiality when required. This position will focus on customer service, compliance with federal and state requirements and development of corrective action plans as needed. This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensure proper coverage, and complete timesheets. This position serves a large population of Spanish/Creole speaking clients and employee may be required to perform interpreter duties, if bi-lingual.

  • This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a reliable motor vehicle to carry out these duties.
  • Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.
  • This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Lee facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10.
  • This position is classified as sensitive. This individual will perform tasks defined as sensitive and handles confidential information. Background screening is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • SUPERVISION: In addition to the supervisory duties above, this position supervises direct reports including providing guidance, and direction. Consults with agency’s Clerical QA and Training Coordinator to address areas needing improvement or additional training.
  • CLINIC ADMINISTRATION DUTIES: Manages the security, inventory levels, and storage of special formula, Electronic Benefits Transfer cards, and breastfeeding supplies.  Ensures the clinic is well organized by maintaining the client schedule, workflow processes, and maintaining administrative documentation. Collaborate with other WIC supervisors to ensure appropriate staffing and resource distribution. Ensure clinic call log is worked by the close of business daily.
  • Calibrates anthropometric equipment per DHM 150-24 manual.  Ensures site follows proper maintenance of bio-hazardous materials according to FDOH and CHD requirements. Ensures staff follow FDOH and Lee CHD policies regarding prevention of blood borne pathogen transmission.  Ensures staff follow DHM 150-24 guidance on cleaning and documentation of cleaning of single user electric breast pumps.
  • Manages clinic’s records management and coordinates with WIC Administration to ensure proper procedures are followed for “itemized storage/disposition requests” of records per DOHP 250-6-18.
  • Prescreens program applicants and interviews program participants. Documents demographics, income eligibility, and immunizations. Issues benefits, including special formula and Electronic Benefits Transfer cards. Advises participants regarding redemption procedures, rights and obligations, program procedures, and vendor/participant concerns. Offers voter registration opportunity.
  • Collects and records medical data of WIC clients in accordance with DHM 150-24.  Assesses client’s immunization status and refers to CHD immunization department or healthcare provider if delinquent.    Properly maintains bio-hazardous materials according to FDOH and CHD requirements. Follows FDOH and Lee CHD policies regarding prevention of blood borne pathogen transmission.  Cleans electric breast pumps returned to the site per department policy.
  • Provides and documents breastfeeding support to clients to include issuance of breast pumps.
  • This position has the responsibility of being the Alternate Key Custodian for the Lehigh WIC secure area(s) at the Lehigh WIC location and will perform related duties as defined in DOHP 50-10.
  • Participates in outreach activities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
