Do you want hands-on experience supporting programs that improve the lives of families, children, and older adults? Join the Health Division at Oakland County as a Summer Health Education Assistant in Health Promotion and Support and gain meaningful, real-world experience in health education, maternal and child health, injury prevention, and community outreach. This is more than a summer job — it’s an opportunity to contribute to initiatives that directly impact residents across the county. ________________________________________ What You’ll Do As a Summer Health Education Assistant, you will support Health Education, Nutrition Services, and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based health programs. Community Health Programming • Assist with nutrition education and physical activity sessions for families, including: o Taste tests o Grocery store tours o Breastfeeding programs and events o Nutrition programming for older adults • Support maternal and child health initiatives, including Oakland County’s new Baby Café. • Help coordinate and attend community programs such as: o Family Market Days o Senior Project Fresh o WIC Produce Connection Prevention & Public Health Initiatives • Support injury and violence prevention programming. • Assist with substance use disorder prevention efforts for youth and adults. • Participate in public health coalition and partnership meetings. Health Education & Communications • Develop and revise educational materials for print and virtual platforms. • Assist during health classes and community presentations for adults, youth, and children. • Contribute to health communications efforts, including: o Social media messaging o Newsletters o Website content o Media campaigns • Gain exposure to graphic design principles and public health messaging strategies. Events & Community Engagement • Help coordinate and staff health fairs and special events throughout the county. • Work with diverse community partners in indoor and outdoor settings. • Engage directly with residents across multiple communities. Evaluation & Assessment • Assist with needs assessments and program evaluation activities. • Administer community surveys and participate in listening sessions. • Compile and summarize data to support program improvements. ________________________________________ Why You’ll Love It You’ll contribute to programs that improve nutrition, support families, promote healthy behaviors, and strengthen community well-being across Oakland County. Requirements

  • Have completed at least 2 years from an accredited college or university, with course work in Community Health, Education, Biology, Nutrition, or a related area.
  • Ability to communicate, prepare written documents, operate office equipment, and handle office supplies.
  • Must submit to immunizations as required by the Department of Health & Human Services and submit to a tuberculin skin test or chest x‑ray, at County expense.

  • Help coordinate and staff health fairs and special events throughout the county.
  • Work with diverse community partners in indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Engage directly with residents across multiple communities.
  • Assist with needs assessments and program evaluation activities.
  • Administer community surveys and participate in listening sessions.
  • Compile and summarize data to support program improvements.
  • Acts as photographer at events and presentations.
  • May update directories and databases, take inventory of unit supplies.
  • Assists with educational presentations, develops brochures, flyers and displays.
  • May be responsible for creating, developing, marketing, presenting, and evaluating one summer educational “project”. (Such as “sun safety”, “bike safety”, etc.)
  • Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
