About The Position

This position is located at Southern Correctional Institution, Troy, NC, which houses approximately 500 male offenders. Southern Correctional serves as the hub for healthcare for the male offender population. The Health Care Technician I position is primarily responsible for providing direct care and person-centered supports to offenders with complex physical, intellectual, medical, and behavioral needs. Duties include completing nursing assistant assignments while maintaining optimal gross/fine motor skills, ensuring activities of daily living (mealtime, dressing, bathing, grooming, etc.) while supporting the highest level of independence. This position is responsible for ensuring all health and safety needs are met for assigned offenders per regulatory guidelines. Health Care Technician I are responsible for ensuring confidentiality and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) in all aspects of communication.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
  • Must complete the Department of Adult Correction’s Medication Technician course and competency evaluation upon hire.
