About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The Health Care Supervisor provides direct oversight of Developmental Technician staff to ensure the safety, care, programming, and overall quality of services for individuals within the assigned living unit. The role includes conducting regular staff meetings to deliver training, share information, and maintain effective communication, as well as evaluating performance, counseling staff, and administering disciplinary actions when necessary. The supervisor coordinates staffing coverage to meet operational needs and maintains accountability for the accuracy of all timekeeping records. Responsibilities also include monitoring and approving requests for supplies, personal items, and individual funds while ensuring proper financial procedures are followed. The position supports a therapeutic environment by enhancing the living unit and ensuring the implementation of daily living programs and active treatment through staff training and engagement. Additionally, the supervisor ensures adequate materials and supplies are available, investigates incidents or injuries promptly, and promotes safe work habits and practices through training and implementation of established facility procedures and guidelines. This Health Care Supervisor position is located within the West End Villas Division operates on a rotating schedule that includes both a.m. and p.m. shifts, with days off structured in accordance with a standard 40-hour workweek.

Requirements

  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • High school or General Educational Development Diploma and three years of experience; -or- an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis (6-8 times daily).
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, walk, run short distances (50 yards) and climb stairs without limitations of a permanent nature.
  • This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of individuals with developmental disabilities, including experience providing direct care in a residential setting and understanding the roles and responsibilities of health care staff.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and report on the strengths and needs of both individuals and staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience scheduling staff across multiple shifts and performing related timekeeping functions.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
