About The Position

Health and Safety Specialist Spark Power, a trusted partner in energy across North America, is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to join our team in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The HSE Specialist is a key contributor to cultivating and sustaining a proactive safety culture across Spark Power’s industrial and renewable energy operations. This role requires frequent field visits, collaboration with stakeholders across Solar, BESS, Wind, and Technical Services divisions, and the application of sound safety principles. The Specialist ensures regulatory compliance, implements safe work practices, supports operational teams, and drives continual improvement of the company’s health and safety programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum NCSO designation with 3–5 years of related experience in construction or electrical work preferred; Diploma or Certification in Occupational Health and Safety an asset; working toward CRST considered an advantage.
  • Post‐secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of HSE experience in construction, renewable energy, or industrial electrical environments.
  • Proven knowledge of OHSA, OSHA 1926/1910 and other applicable standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites regularly.
  • Requires the ability to travel to various locations regularly.

Nice To Haves

  • CSP designation (or working toward designation) is strongly preferred.
  • ISO 45000 auditor an asset
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular field visits to job sites across service areas to perform inspections, audits, and safety engagements.
  • Develop and implement Safe Work Practices (SWPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) tailored to field operations.
  • Identify and eliminate hazards through risk assessments and engineering or administrative controls.
  • Act as the site HSE representative during mobilization, active project phases, or critical safety tasks.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and issue corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide training, coaching, and HSE presentations to employees and subcontractors.
  • Support onboarding, mentoring, and field validation of new technicians regarding safety expectations.
  • Monitor and maintain third‐party vendor portals (e.g., ISNetworld, Avetta, ContractorCheck) to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee DoneSafe entries, ensuring timely updates to incidents, inspections, corrective actions, and training modules.
  • Track and follow up on Safety Observations, analyze trends, and share learnings and best practices with the broader team.
  • Conducted annual internal COR audits and completed audit reports.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Technicians, and Branch Managers to build site‐specific safety plans and track leading indicators.
  • Benchmark with external HSE organizations, including CSA, NFPA, IHSA, and OSHA, to incorporate best practices into Spark’s programs.
  • Champion continuous improvement through data analysis, identifying gaps, and applying safety management system (SMS) enhancements.
