About The Position

The Headmaster serves as the overall chief executive leader of Rocky Mountain Classical Academy (RMCA), providing strategic direction and comprehensive oversight of all academic, operational, and organizational functions for the K–8 charter school, including its Early Education and Homeschool programs. Accountable to the Board of Directors, the Headmaster ensures RMCA’s mission and vision are fully realized through excellence in instruction, strong organizational leadership, and effective resource management. The Headmaster oversees the academic performance across all programs, ensuring rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum implementation, continuous improvement in student outcomes, and fidelity to the school’s classical education model. The Headmaster provides leadership and oversight of the school’s financial, administrative, and operational functions. This includes supervising administrative teams, managing budgets, overseeing facilities, and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The role is responsible for maintaining an efficient, safe, and professional school environment while supporting sustainable growth and long-term organizational success. Through collaborative leadership, the Headmaster fosters strong relationships with staff, families, the Board, and the broader community, ensuring alignment, transparency, and shared commitment to RMCA’s mission. A minimum of three years teaching experience is desired, but not required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required; Doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Education, Educational Leadership, Business or related field preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in business operations management or school administration equivalent, including managing bonds and stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technology and common software applications including Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven experience with budget development and financial oversight (multi-million dollar budgets), financial analysis, resource allocation and bonds/stakeholders.
  • Experience interacting with and being accountable to a parent-elected Board of Directors.
  • Knowledge of best practices in school business operations and administration.
  • Working knowledge of the classical method of instruction and the Core Knowledge curriculum.

Nice To Haves

  • Charter school experience preferred, with an understanding and appreciation for the foundational principles of the charter school philosophy.
  • Prior experience as a school leader, Headmaster, Principal, or Finance Officer preferred
  • Experience and knowledge regarding charter school issues desired.
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience is desired, but not required.

  • Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors and the administrative staff.
  • Monitor, and approve, expenditures and financial performance, providing regular reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and purchasing processes in conjunction with outside financial contractors, Human Resources, and on-campus bookkeeper.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Broad knowledge of state and federal grant programs, including compliance requirements and funding processes
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for all academic programs, including K–8, Early Education, and Homeschool Enrichment, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and classical education model and adherence to budgets.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems across all grade levels and program types.
  • Partner closely with the administrative staff to set academic goals, monitor progress, and ensure high levels of student achievement.
  • Supervise and evaluate academic leadership.
  • Support the recruitment, development, and retention of high-quality leaders and instructional staff.
  • Provide oversight of the Homeschool program to ensure academic rigor, compliance, and alignment with school standards, and the budget.
  • Ensure the Early Education program supports school readiness and aligns with early childhood best practices and maintains budget.
  • Communicate academic performance, goals, and progress clearly to the Board of Directors, staff, and families.
  • Supervise administrative staff and ensure efficient office operations.
  • Maintain accurate records related to contracts and vendors.
  • Implement policies and procedures to streamline administrative processes and improve efficiency.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for external vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Responsible for approving purchases and signing contracts with vendors.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Director on maintenance, repairs, and facility usage agreements.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Director on procurement of supplies and equipment necessary for school operations.
  • Ensure a safe and functional learning environment for students and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as charter school policies.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation promptly.
  • Coordinate audits and reviews to maintain compliance and accountability.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and administrative staff to develop long-term educational, financial, and operational strategies.
  • Provide input and recommendations to improve organizational effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings and initiatives to support the school’s mission and goals.
  • Attend all Board of Directors meetings and provide monthly written reports that are quantitative and qualitative.
  • Assist the Board in determining policies requiring approval and adoption; maintain procedural documentation to ensure consistency.
  • Represent RMCA’s interests at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Maintain an honest and transparent relationship with the Board to effectively govern RMCA.
  • Implement the Board’s strategic plan and policies in an atmosphere of teamwork, respect, and trust.
  • Undergo formal evaluation once per year by the Board.
  • Conduct all compliance and reporting measures required by District 49.
  • Performs all extra tasks and projects as assigned by the Board promptly.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between the Board and staff for academics, early education, security, facilities, finances, human resources, enrollment and marketing, office staff, and nutrition services.
  • Determine staffing needs to implement the school’s mission.
  • Evaluate staff and administration under supervision and provide summary data to the Board.
  • Ensure professionalism of all faculty and staff.
  • Recommend corrective action to the Board to address recognized problems.
  • Attend required district and state meetings.
  • Responsible for handling any crisis decisions and situations involving students and families.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with the Board, staff, and families.
  • Communicates effectively with the school district, community, media, and other parties regarding the school’s programs and progress towards its goals.
  • Develops public relations and other printed materials.
  • Leads the staff to maintain a supportive and encouraging work environment.
  • Represents the school, its policies, and programs effectively to the Board, community, and District.
  • Follows the Board’s complaint policies in dealing with conflicts involving vendors, staff, or administration.
  • Effectively leads emergency training, monitoring procedures and practices, and leads during real emergencies.
  • Regularly attends staff meetings, in-service sessions, and mandatory training.
  • Leads administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives.
