About The Position

The Head Women's Bowling Coach at Norfolk State University will be responsible for all aspects of the women's bowling program. This includes recruiting, managing official and unofficial visits, planning practices, preparing for games, scouting, and scheduling contests in coordination with the sport administrator. The coach will also oversee student-athlete welfare, academic and compliance monitoring, and ensure adherence to NCAA, Conference, and University rules. Additional duties involve fundraising, public relations, budgeting, and various administrative tasks. The successful candidate is expected to foster a positive coaching philosophy, promote a culture of respect and positive communication, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The role requires promoting the holistic development of student-athletes and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and regulations. Significant travel for recruiting and team events is required, and the work schedule is flexible, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position also involves medium physical demands, including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and compliance of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Experience with managing budget/travel budget.
  • Successful criminal background check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Minimum two years NCAA Division I head coaching experience.
  • Minimum three years coaching experience at the collegiate /professional level.
  • Experience recruitment Tidewater/Hampton Roads area.
  • Professional/Pro Experience.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible and accountable for all aspects of the program including recruiting, official and unofficial visits, practice planning, game preparation and scouting, scheduling of contests in conjunction with the sport administrator, student-athlete welfare, academic and compliance monitoring, NCAA, Conference and University rules compliance, fundraising and public relations, budgeting, and administrative duties and responsibilities.
  • Embrace and model a positive coaching philosophy and associated techniques, insisting on a culture of respect and positive communication.
  • Demonstrate an on-going commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion through hiring practices, training and development programming, campus collaborations or participation in university/divisional projects or initiatives.
  • Promote the holistic development of the student-athlete; the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, promoting a culture of compliance, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the university, the MEAC, and the NCAA amongst staff, student-athletes and representatives of athletics interest.
  • Travel for both recruiting and team travel.
  • Ensure compliance with NSU, Commonwealth of Virginia, NCAA and MEAC rules, regulations and policies.
