This position is responsible for organizing, developing, and administering all functions related to coaching a nationally competitive Division I Women’s Basketball program. Fundamental duties include but are not limited to coaching 15 student athletes; identifying, recruiting, hosting& securing prospective student athletes; commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student athletes as well as player development; budget management, engagement in program fundraising and supervision of all support staff. The Head Coach will manage all day-to-day team operations of the women’s basketball program to include practice/game preparation, and team travel. This position collaborates with intercollegiate athletics staff members, medical services, academic support, compliance, and institutional partners. The Head Coach must appropriately represent the team, department, and University in public and media appearances. This position reports directly to a designated sports administrator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Seven years of relevant colleague-level coaching experience, preferably at the Division I level; or a successful head coach in Div II/III or NAIA
  • Proven ability to coach and motivate team members to reach new levels of accomplishment and professional fulfillment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of personalities, backgrounds, and generations
  • A DMV background check is required for this role

  • Master’s degree and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Coaching Practice and Competition
  • Planning pre-season, season, and off-season practices, assistant assignments, scheduling, and roster maintenance. Prepare game plan, players roles, pre-game, game and post-game arrangements, and film requirements.
  • Program Administration
  • Competitive scheduling, travel arrangements, pre-season camp arrangements, and conducting player meetings. Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and program staff.
  • Recruiting
  • Design and implement the program’s overall recruiting strategy (high school, Jr college & transfer portal). Include identification, evaluation, recruitment, and retention of prospective student-athletes. Strategize on the most beneficial & productive recruiting locations for the head coach as well as assistant coaches, to have a presence (e.g. high school coaches, club coaches, DII & DIII coaches, etc.)
  • Compliance
  • Responsible for compliance with NCAA, Conference, and Institutional rules and ensuring program compliance.
  • Budget
  • Oversight of program’s finances, zero-based budgeting, and management of all program expenses. Administration of athletic scholarship allocation. Stay current with permissible revenue sharing, Alston and Name/Image/Likeness (NIL) legislation & potential implementation in this program.
  • Student-Athlete Character Development, Academic Achievement & Team Culture
  • Enhance student-athlete collegiate experience through team expectation and team culture, personal growth development opportunities – life skills, community service and professional growth. Emphasis on academic success and retention to boost graduation rates and academic progress rate (APR).
  • Alumni Engagement, Fundraising, Public Relations
  • Develop program specific alumni engagement strategies annually. Collaborate with the Associate Athletic Director of Development to establish fundraising initiatives that are part of the overarching department structure. Represent the institution in media requests and speaking engagements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President & Director of Athletics or Assigned Sport Administrator.
