The Head Start Teacher is responsible for the total program operation of the Head Start Center. The Teacher will plan and be actively involved in all activities and see that other staff members and parents are involved in planning and carrying out these activities. The Teacher must meet all classroom responsibilities and supervise, mentor, and evaluate their assigned Teacher Aides. Must have the ability to read, speak and write with proficiency in English language; provide and maintain a safe environment; and maintain regular attendance. In conformance with Head Start Performance Standards, perform the following functions; Provide comprehensive services and classroom experiences that met individual needs of students. Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate Teacher Aides. Ensure proper application and interpretation of policy and procedures by Teacher and Teacher Assistant. Direct teaching staffing planning and carrying out program objectives and activities. Have demonstrated competency to perform functions that include; Planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy, phonemic, and print awareness, their understanding and use of language, their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, their appreciation of books, their understanding of early math and early science, their problem-solving abilities, and their approaches to learning; Establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment; Supporting the social and emotional development of children; and Encouraging the involvement of the families of the children in a Head Start program and supporting the development of relationships between children and their families. This is a Safety Sensitive position.
