Head of Venmo, Agentic AI
About The Position
Define and drive the strategic vision for machine learning initiatives within the team. Lead the development and optimization of machine learning models. Oversee the preprocessing and analysis of large datasets. Deploy and maintain ML solutions in production environments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ML models into products and services. Monitor and evaluate the performance of deployed models, making necessary adjustments. Mentor and guide junior engineers and data scientists. Ensure adherence to best practices and industry standards in ML development. Set strategy & vision: Define and drive Venmo's AI roadmap across personalization, recommendations, feed relevance, search and agentic user/merchant workflows. Build LLM Agents: Architect LLM applications with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool/function calling, and multi-agent orchestration to power commerce use cases. Advance ranking & RecSys: Lead development of large-scale recommender systems and feed ranking using transformers and deep learning. Ship to production: Own the lifecycle—feature engineering, training, offline eval, deployment and monitoring Lead & grow talent: Mentor senior ICs. foster a high-bar, inclusive, execution-oriented culture. Partner broadly: Work with Product, Design, Venmo engineering teams to integrate AI across the Venmo app. Communicate impact: Translate complex concepts into crisp narratives; influence senior stakeholders with data-backed decisions.
Requirements
- 8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience leading others
- 8+ years relevant experience (or equivalent) with a Graduate degree
- Previous management experience leading AI/ML teams
