About The Position

The Head of Quantitative Biomedicine will be a member of the Quantitative Medicine and Clinical Technologies (QMCT) line, whose purpose is to provide Biogen with methods for the quantification of the health state of patients and provide a rigorous paradigm for improving clinical trial outcomes. The QMCT group applies a physician-scientist model to incorporate multi-scale computational modeling and simulation to bring specific value to development and discovery; catalyzing the organization towards a human-centric transformative quantitative biology strategy for drug development/discovery. QMCT includes platforms in clinical technologies (including digital and internet of things approaches), quantitative medicine and experimental medicine and relies on robust interfaces with groups across Biogen. The Head of Quantitative Biomedicine will report to the Head of Quantitative Neuromedicine and will be a highly motivated and engaged scientist with significant practical engineering experience in translating biological questions into actionable measurement strategies that will enable the quantitative transformation of clinical trials across the entire development spectrum. This role requires leading several matrixed teams of computational and experimental experts as well as data scientists to support Biogen portfolio projects and the QMCT measurement strategy focused on movement, speech and language, cognition and physiology. This leader will guide the group to enable collaborative efforts across Biogen to coordinate proper design process for novel systems that will be used in measurement of neurological outputs in all clinical trial settings. This group will be the translational biomedical link between the Quantitative Medicine Points of Contact, who work with teams defining specific biomedical questions, and the Biogen device and IT engineering groups, all serving the implementation of validated novel measures in trials along with Global Clinical Operations. As part of the broader QMCT line, the Quantitative Biomedicine line will deliver both fit-for-purpose solutions at the request of asset and enterprise teams across Biogen while also developing platform technologies in anticipation of future organizational needs. A critical capability of all scientific leaders in the QMCT group lab is the ability to interact with and represent Biogen to the local Boston-Cambridge medical-academic and technical community. The Head of Quantitative Biomedicine will be expected to lead scientific coalitions and collaboration that result from alliances and collaborative programs brought in to the QMCT by the Human Experimental Biology Laboratory external collaboration team. The Head of Quantitative Biomedicine must also be a credible and contributing external partner and be able to develop quantitative and analytical pipelines with academic, industry and government partners.
