About The Position

Grindr is seeking a strategic, hands-on privacy executive to lead our Privacy function. You will own and mature our privacy program and ensure responsible use of AI across our products and company overall. In addition to managing a growing team, you’ll be a trusted advisor and daily contributor to high-impact decisions. This is a hybrid role based in our San Francisco OR Los Angeles office and will require you to be in person Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lead and evolve our privacy program, including operationalizing privacy by design and default, to enable Grindr’s continued growth through privacy-protective innovation, partnering closely with our Product, Engineer, Ads, and other teams Guide the company to ensure compliance with and manage risk under global privacy, data security, and AI regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, EU AI Act, U.S. state AI laws), including training, auditing and reporting Partner with our Data and Cybersecurity team leaders to manage and enhance our data governance program Support privacy-related litigation and manage our response to data subject requests, privacy incidents, and regulatory inquiries Conduct risk assessment related to data processing and lead incident response protocols related to data breach or privacy incidents Report to our VP of Legal and serve as a member of Grindr’s Legal, Privacy and Global Affairs leadership team Manage and mentor our privacy team while also contributing to day-to-day privacy work Represent Grindr externally and drive internal company-wide education and awareness efforts on privacy and AI topics

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including as a Head of Privacy or Chief Privacy Officer, Deputy CPO, or Senior Privacy Counsel
  • Significant experience counseling on privacy and data protection at a product-driven technology company, serving at least millions of users
  • Deep knowledge of global privacy laws and emerging AI regulations, including familiarity with the legal landscape around algorithmic transparency and automated decision-making
  • Excellent judgment, communication skills, and ability to provide clear, pragmatic guidance in ambiguous or fast-moving situations
  • Comfortable leading strategy and contributing hands-on execution in a fast-moving, dynamic, high-performing environment
  • JD required from an accredited law school and active bar membership

Nice To Haves

  • Have experience building privacy programs from the ground up
  • Have first-hand experience with privacy regulatory investigations, incident response management, breach reporting and managing a global privacy program.
  • Previously worked in-house at a global company, preferably in the technology sector.
