Head of People

8Fleet Inc.Los Angeles, CA
9d

About The Position

8Fleet is hiring. 8Fleet is a rapidly growing LA based technology and logistics startup building the operational infrastructure for both autonomous and non-autonomous rideshare fleets. With our anticipated growth, we’re searching for a Head of People who can architect a high performance People function that supports a large, distributed, non exempt workforce across multiple locations. This is a foundational leadership role. You’ll design the systems, processes, and technology that become the backbone of how we hire, onboard, develop, support, and retain our people as we scale. We are looking for a Head of People who brings deep operational rigor, a love of systems design, and the ability to translate real world workforce needs into scalable, tech enabled People programs. You will own the People function end to end, from recruiting to culture to compliance, while building the infrastructure that allows 8Fleet to grow fast without breaking. This is a builder role for someone who thrives in high volume, multi-site, non- exempt environments and who wants to create clarity, stability, and excellence through systems.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years of People leadership experience, including ownership of People Ops for a large non exempt workforce
  • Proven success designing systems and infrastructure for multi location or multi market operations
  • Strong operations background with a bias toward efficiency, documentation, and repeatability
  • Deep understanding of wage and hour laws, shift based staffing, and compliance requirements across multiple states
  • Clear, steady leadership style that builds trust with operators, frontline employees, and executives
  • Low ego, pragmatic, and energized by building in a high growth environment
  • A love of process, structure, and making complex systems simple and scalable

Responsibilities

  • Architect scalable People systems for a large distributed workforce, including HRIS, time and attendance, scheduling, payroll, and communications platforms
  • Build efficient workflows, automation, and guardrails that reduce friction and increase accuracy
  • Evaluate, select, and implement new tools to improve speed, reliability, and employee experience
  • Develop data dashboards and People insights that drive decision making across the business
  • Build a reliable People Operations engine that employees and managers trust
  • Build and standardize People processes across multiple sites and operational environments
  • Ensure consistent policy interpretation, training, scheduling, and workforce management across all locations
  • Partner with operations leaders to understand frontline realities and design solutions that work in fast paced, 24/7 environments
  • Own headcount planning, talent strategy, and workforce models (non exempt, shift based, multi site staffing)
  • Build strong partnerships with operations, finance, and regional managers
  • Drive a consistent leadership operating rhythm across all teams, including communication cadences, performance cycles, and manager enablement
  • Create high impact programs that strengthen communication and retention
  • Support managers in handling employee relations issues with fairness and clarity
  • Set cultural norms that reinforce accountability, high standards, and operational excellence
