About The Position

The Head of E&S Casualty National & Complex Accounts will be responsible for assessing, underwriting, and managing high-value and intricate Excess & Surplus insurance placements. This role requires deep expertise in complex risk analysis, robust negotiation skills, and the ability to develop tailored insurance solutions for sophisticated clients. They will lead underwriting authority across top national wholesale broker partners and key growth offices. This individual must possess broad technical expertise across many classes of business and maintain extensive contacts within the wholesale broker network nationally as a core requirement. The Head of E&S Casualty National & Complex Accounts will leverage their outstanding broker relationships to accelerate production and establish and grow a robust book of business by identifying new market opportunities, and leveraging market insights to optimize portfolio performance. They will be responsible for developing and executing a multi-year E&S Casualty portfolio change management strategy in line with Wholesale Solutions growth ambitions. They will be responsible for developing a comprehensive understanding of industry trends, market challenges, and emerging risks to proactively adapt underwriting strategies to maintain a competitive edge. They will work closely with the other business unit counterparts to deliver as ONE AXA to our broker network and ensure a consistent message and seamless interactions between UW and the brokers teams. As well as, work to meet P&L budgetary requirements and performance metrics for the unit supporting the overall Wholesale Insurance Objectives. This individual will work in close partnership with the Head of E&S Casualty and E&S Casualty Leadership team o train and develop region’s E&S Casualty underwriting teams driving continuous improvement in complex risk analysis, overall technical capabilities, deepening understanding of appetite, strengthening and expanding broker relationships.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in E&S across all lines of Casualty underwriting, with a focus on large and complex accounts
  • Proven track record of underwriting high-value, intricate risks successfully
  • Established outstanding broker relationships with strategic wholesale broker partners.
  • Exhibit robust collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with peers and the Head of Casualty, supporting the continued development and growth of the Casualty portfolio
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to engage brokers, clients, and colleagues and ability to represent AXA XL at client events, seminars, conventions, and meetings
  • Proven technical background with the ability to present and negotiate complex agreements
  • Experience training and building high caliber underwriting teams
  • Strategic vision, driving results
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills, leadership skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business or related field required

Responsibilities

  • Leverage your deep network of wholesale broker relationships within the region to drive business growth and achieve strategic objectives. Utilize broker relationships effectively to expand business opportunities.
  • Drive growth by further developing existing markets (e.g., deeper relationships with existing brokers and clients) as measured by new premium and market share growth or profitable GWP growth in new book of business across Top 5 wholesale broker partners with their top strategic offices.
  • Continuously analyze portfolio performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to refine the regional risk profile, ensuring sustainable growth and profitability.
  • Act as lead underwriting authority and key escalation for all underwriting activities in partnership with Head of Wholesale Solutions on Distribution strategy for Top E&S broker partners and growth offices.
  • Oversee long-term change management of portfolio driving diversification with a higher mix of large and complex accounts while increasing profitability.
  • Execute corporate and departmental strategy with the ability to identify and utilize KPIs to drive underwriting profitability, transition portfolio mix, and manage near & long-term results.
  • Coordinate/facilitate/lead new business, renewals, re-pricings, restrictions, special acceptances, commutations and cancellations in determining risk acceptability & coverage, in accordance with the underwriting guidelines and authorities as established.
  • Train and mentor E&S Casualty Underwriters on underwriting of large and complex national accounts while ensuring operational efficiency around production and hit ratio reporting, retention ratios, production planning and tactical actions expected related to the established plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including claims, risk management, and distribution, to ensure cohesive service and reinforce our value proposition of industry leading speed to market delivery of large and complex solutions.
