About The Position

We are seeking a Principal, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Leader who will be responsible for leading the development, implementation and oversight of a comprehensive safety program for Intersect Power to ensure best in class EHS performance for personnel, contractors and interested parties affected by our projects, operations, and activities. Lead a best-in-class EHS program across renewable energy construction and operations that implements and maintains systems that proactively identify,control, and manage safety and environmental risks across complex, multi-site infrastructure projects. Partner with executive leadership, project teams, and external stakeholders to embed a strong safety culture aligned with Intersect’s long-run values. This position will report to the Head of Operations, and will support cross-functional partners in Development, Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Legal, and Operations. The successful candidate must be an experienced multi-tasker with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Our ideal candidate is team-oriented, proactive, and comfortable with a deadline driven environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or Business.
  • 15+ years experience working in energy construction (oil, gas, solar, wind, chemical plants).
  • 10+ years’ experience managing and/or directing an HSE operation, with a focus on strategic planning and execution.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and practices as they relate to safety and environment.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resource management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Able to lead root cause analysis safety reviews to identify corrective actions, including experience with significant safety incidents
  • Ability to complete upon hire the latest IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 National Incident Management System training.
  • Demonstrated experience with management systems including 9001, 45001 and 14001.
  • Experience at large construction sites and/or major industrial facilities (e.g. chemical plants).

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications, such as CSP, ASP, CIH, PMP, CHST, SMS preferred or willing to obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Support the organization in the best practices coordination and integration of EHS matters, with the aim to ensure the compliance with local laws, regulatory agencies, company environmental, health, and safety policies, and practices.
  • Lead EHS strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing HSE initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future HSE programs and systems across the Organization.
  • Participate in strategic and operational governance processes of the businessorganization regarding EHS topics.
  • Provide leadership during the definition of EHS targets, KPIs, policies andprocedures ensuring their implementation and application.
  • Develop, track, and control the EHS annual operating and capital budgets. To elaborate business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for HSE programs, spending and initiatives, supporting other relevant units with the relevant budget development.
  • Design and apply assessment tools to measure program/training effectiveness. Maintain updated curriculum database and training records.
  • Coordinate the aggregation and reporting of periodic (e.g. monthly) EHS reports, including EPC and vendor reports.
  • Sets and collaborates on loss prevention goals.
  • Conduct site visits to all sites under construction to ensure best in class execution.
  • Conduct quarterly meetings with counterparts at EPC and vendor partners.
  • Perform pre-qualification prior to awarding bids to assess Contractors’ EHS Programs, Performance, and Culture.
  • Provide visibility on EHS progress, performance, successes and challenges to Operational Leadership Teams.
  • Maintain, execute and monitor effectiveness on all actions identified on compliance matrix for site under operations.
  • Develop, communicate, and post 300HSE metrics including internal and external stakeholder reporting.
  • Obtain and maintain EHS records and required documents as required by law and other interested parties.
