Position Overview The Head of Business Continuity is a strategic leadership role responsible for ensuring the organization can maintain essential business functions during and after disruptions of any scale. This leader owns the complete BC planning lifecycle—from Business Impact Analysis through plan development, exercising, and continuous improvement. The role pioneers a shift from static, document-centric planning to dynamic, operationally integrated continuity capabilities that enable the business to adapt and respond in real-time. With oversight responsibilities spanning workforce resilience and operational resilience domains, this position ensures that people, processes, and operational capabilities are seamlessly integrated into a cohesive continuity framework that protects critical business outcomes.

Requirements

  • Business continuity expertise: 12+ years of progressive experience in business continuity, operational resilience, or related disciplines within complex enterprise environments.
  • Leadership experience: 7+ years of leadership experience managing BC teams, with demonstrated ability to build programs and develop high-performing continuity professionals.
  • Multi-site implementation: Proven experience implementing and maturing BC programs in complex, multi-site, and geographically distributed organizations.
  • Standards expertise: Strong understanding of BC standards and frameworks including ISO 22301, BCI Good Practice Guidelines, DRII Professional Practices, and ASIS OR standards.
  • BC technology proficiency: Experience with BC planning software and platforms such as Archer, Fusion Risk Management, ServiceNow, Castellan, or equivalent solutions.
  • BIA methodology: Deep expertise in Business Impact Analysis methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques.
  • Exercise design: Experience designing and facilitating BC exercises across the full spectrum from tabletop discussions to complex functional simulations.
  • Executive communication: Ability to translate complex continuity concepts into business-relevant narratives for executive and board-level audiences.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in business administration, risk management, or related field preferred.
  • Certifications: CBCP, MBCI, or equivalent professional certification required; CBCLA, MBCO, or ISO 22301 Lead Implementer certifications highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • BC strategy and methodology: Define and maintain enterprise business continuity strategy, standards, and methodologies aligned with industry best practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Business Impact Analysis program: Own the enterprise-wide BIA program, ensuring comprehensive identification of critical business processes, dependencies, and recovery priorities across all business units.
  • BC plan coverage: Ensure complete BC plan coverage for all critical business processes, with documented strategies, procedures, and resources required to maintain operations during disruptions.
  • Exercise program design: Design and execute a comprehensive BC exercise program including tabletop walkthroughs, functional exercises, and full-scale simulations that validate plan effectiveness.
  • RTO/RPO establishment: Establish and validate RTO/RPO requirements in partnership with business units, ensuring recovery objectives align with business criticality and risk tolerance.
  • BC technology management: Manage BC planning software, tools, and platforms that enable efficient plan development, maintenance, and activation across the enterprise.
  • Awareness and training: Drive BC awareness and training programs across the organization, building a culture where continuity thinking is embedded in daily operations.
  • Technology coordination: Coordinate with IT and Technology Resilience teams to ensure business recovery requirements are translated into appropriate technology recovery capabilities.
  • Regulatory alignment: Ensure BC plans address all applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and contractual obligations across jurisdictions.
  • Program reporting: Report on BC program health, coverage metrics, exercise results, and improvement initiatives to executive leadership and governance bodies.
  • Workforce resilience oversight: Provide dotted-line oversight of Workforce Resilience domain, ensuring people-related continuity strategies are integrated into enterprise BC plans.
  • Operational resilience oversight: Provide dotted-line oversight of Operational Resilience domain, coordinating with business units to ensure process-level continuity capabilities.
  • Cross-domain integration: Integrate workforce requirements, operational dependencies, and business process documentation into cohesive, actionable BC plans.
