About The Position

The Cook prepares food for the students on both Glen Carbon and Edwardsville campuses, ensuring that activity occurs in a safe sanitary manner and following menus and diet guidelines.  Prepares food for the School’s staff.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have 2 years experience as a cook, prep cook or dietary aide
  • Knowledge of food preparation
  • Possess a sanitation certification
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment including convection oven, gas range, steamer, mixer, tilt-skillet, slicer, microwave and dishwasher.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, able to stoop, crouch and grasp
  • Successful background clearance, physical and drug/alcohol screening

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all meals according to menus and recipes allowing for each specific diet and substitutions.
  • All menu items should be in an attractive manner with good taste and appeal and on time
  • All kitchen equipment is maintained to meet all applicable codes and regulations at all times.
  • Check food request/field trips before beginning to prepare meal utilize leftovers were possible.
  • Complete all tasks in a timely efficient manner.
  • Lifting is required, safety belt must be worn during entire shift
  • Effective hair restraints required, along with proper attire and shoes during work schedule.
  • Make sure all menu items are present on proper cart and labeled for individual including necessary diets, substitutions nourishment, supplement as diet order as prescribed at all times
  • Maintain accurate records prior to end of shift break log, meals substitutions.
  • Prep completed for next days production before shifts ends. Please notify person in charge of any needed items
  • Successful completion of all required training
  • Make sure inventory items are properly rotated and all items are returned to proper shelf, covered, dated, and labeled.
  • Kitchen equipment is kept up to codes at all times
  • Assumes responsibility as a mandated reporter concerning incidents of purported abuse/neglect of students as outlined in the agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
  • Prepare food for the Metro East Elementary campus and safely transport the cook food prior to start of breakfast and lunch.
  • Shop for groceries for both campuses twice a month and/or as needed.
