About The Position

The LA County Board of Supervisors has unanimously ratified a Proclamation of Local Emergency in response to the windstorms and wildfires, including the Palisades and Eaton Fires, that have devastated communities across the County. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to assist the County in mobilizing resources and support needed to help our residents recover and rebuild. The Department of Public Works is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Head Construction Inspector vacancies related to this unprecedented natural disaster. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Head Construction Inspector.

Requirements

  • Four years' experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction blueprints and making calculations therefrom. One year of the required experience must have been at the level of a Senior Construction Inspector.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.
  • Successful applicants for positions that require driving must provide verification of their driver license and a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.
  • Physical Class 3 - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
  • Experience at the level of a Senior Construction Inspector in the service of County of Los Angeles is defined as: Independently inspects complex work of construction contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, private parties, or other agencies involved in the construction, maintenance, or repair of various types of permitted activities and/or public works infrastructure including but not limited to flood control and water conservation facilities, bikeways, roads, and highways, bridges, aviation facilities, sewers, storm drains, and water systems to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, laws, ordinances, construction standards, and approved plans and specifications. Responsibilities

  • Plans, lays out, and assigns work to inspectors and checks their reports.
  • Checks over plans for new jobs and for changes made during construction.
  • Checks and reports on the progress of construction and the inspection thereof.
  • Makes final acceptance inspections.
  • Recommends changes in specifications.
  • Conducts tests of construction materials.
