About The Position

The Head Coach is responsible to the Director of Athletics for all activities of the intercollegiate sports program in a specific area. This role involves assigning and promoting assistant coaches based on experience and performance, coordinating their work, and overseeing the schedules and performance of team support staff such as trainers. The Head Coach also assists the athletic director in providing timely and constructive performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Previous coaching experience in the applicable team sport.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with faculty, staff, parents, and alumni
  • Ability to work effectively within the guidelines of the Co-Lin Athletic Department, MACCC, and the NJCA
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and managerial skills.
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with athletes and coaches.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree
  • Previous collegiate head basketball coaching experience
  • Knowledge of MACCC rules /regulations
  • Previous recruiting experience in the state of Mississippi
  • Proven leadership
  • Proven commitment to the academic and athletic development of the student-athlete
  • First Aid/CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting with the upkeep of the athletic facilities.
  • Prepares bids for equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for recruiting student-athletes.
  • Prepares for practice, game organization, and strategy.
  • Monitors student athletes' class attendance, grade performance, and campus reports.
  • Submits student information and dates/times for official absences.
  • Collects student athletes' information for insurance purposes.
  • Responsible for complying with NJCAA, MACCC, and other rules and regulations pertaining to athletics.
  • Responsible for scouting opponents.
  • Works with other coaches to promote the total athletic program.
  • Works in harmonious relations with faculty, staff, patrons, and students.
  • Provides information to the public relations department as assigned.
  • Responsible for inventory, scheduling, and travel.
  • Responsible for making sure athletes prepare daily assignments and attend all classes.
  • Supervises athletes in the dormitory, cafeteria, and on campus.
  • Recommends, through the college's planning process, the physical and budgetary needs of the athletic program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
