About The Position

Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the Head Coach - Flag Football will oversee the development and implementation of all aspects of the Flag Football program, including student-athlete recruitment, athlete development, and competitive preparation. This part-time role involves collaborating with assistant coaches (technical specialists) to deliver high-quality coaching, mentor student-athletes, and foster a culture of passion, teamwork, and excellence within the program. Expected workload is approximately 22 hours per week during the competitive season (Aug-Nov), and 2-4 hours per week in the off-season (Dec-July).

Requirements

  • Minimum of NCCP Level 2 Flag Football coaching certification.
  • Previous coaching experience at an equal or higher level
  • Able to commit to a flexible schedule which will include non-standard hours (evenings, weekends)
  • Before applying, please note that to work at McGill University, you must be both authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
  • Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.

  • 5 Years Related Experience

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid and CPR qualifications are considered an asset.
  • Bilingual in both English and French
  • Selected candidate must successfully pass their criminal background check in order to be considered for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and support players in their athletic performance and skill development.
  • Schedule and lead practices and drills to prepare athletes for competitive performance.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the Flag Football program, including competitions, practices, compliance, budgets, travel, academics, student conduct, and athlete development.
  • Scout and recruit potential team members.
  • Act as a mentor and guide by supervising athletes during practices and matches, providing one-on-one instruction and motivation.
  • Supervise 2 technical specialists - assistant coaches, including approving weekly work hours submitted in Workday.
  • Required to stay up to date on all courses – i.e. CCES & Safe Sport – as per U SPORT & university guidelines
  • In the off-season, ensure emails are monitored, and responses are dealt with promptly.
