About The Position

Ave Maria University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Head Athletic Trainer. This role reports directly to the Director of Sports Medicine and assists in providing comprehensive medical care to 25 varsity NAIA athletic programs. Primary sport assignments for this position are Football and Softball. This is a 12-month, full-time position that requires evening and weekend availability during the competitive season.

Requirements

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree from a CAATE accredited, professional Athletic Training program required
  • BOC certification, Florida licensure (be in good standing or able to obtain), Current certification in CPR/AED
  • Positive work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with other staff within the sports medicine and athletic departments, i.e. work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must support the University’s Catholic mission.
  • Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous collegiate athletic training experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Football and Football operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services for assigned varsity sports, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation
  • Coordinate medical coverage for practices, competitions, and special events
  • Assist with emergency action planning and implementation
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation and injury reports
  • Collaborate with team physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers
  • Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, rehabilitation compliance, and safe participation
  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine with departmental initiatives and coverage planning
