The Transportation Department’s mission is to facilitate safe and secure commercial transportation on public highways, railroads, and transportation facilities, as well as to promote quality and equitable service in a proactive manner for the public and commercial carriers in the household goods, bus, and ferry boat industries. This is accomplished through reduction and prevention of crashes involving commercial motor vehicles, reduction and prevention of hazardous materials incidents, development of consumer protection regulations, and resolution of consumer and carrier complaints. This position as a Civil Forfeiture Compliance Officer in the Compliance Division will have two primary duties: Assess civil forfeiture actions within existing software systems for both hazardous and non-hazardous roadside inspections Conduct compliance reviews and prepare Reports of Violation (ROVs) Lead telephone conferences with Respondents who request the removal of violations or a reduction in civil forfeiture assessments Engage with carriers and shippers to ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulatory requirements Provide guidance to drivers, shippers, and carriers on hazardous materials safety standards and compliance expectations This role requires obtaining and maintaining all certifications necessary to perform roadside inspections, as well as attending required in-service, update, and any additional assigned training Testify in hearings on how Civil Forfeiture is assessed and the basis for its calculation Report to Location: 180 E Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215. The Employee's home must be located within 40 miles of the report to location. This position is working a remote-hybrid schedule which permits the employee to work remotely from home on designated days. This is subject to change with limited notice. A teleworking agreement must be approved by management. PUCO core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across PUCO departments. Salary Information: Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary is set at the lowest rate of the salary range. In most cases, successful employees will increase a step in the salary range within six months, with subsequent step increases occurring every year. In addition, the State of Ohio offers cost of living adjustments, longevity supplements after five years of public service, and wellness incentives.
