About The Position

The Hazardous Material Packer is responsible for safely packaging, labeling, and preparing hazardous and non-hazardous laboratory materials for shipment in compliance with applicable regulations and company procedures. This role supports the distribution of scientific reagents, chemicals, and laboratory products used by clinical laboratories, research institutions, and healthcare organizations. The position ensures all shipments meet regulatory standards including Department of Transportation (DOT), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years of warehouse, distribution, or hazardous materials handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory and shipping systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move packages up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely handle chemical containers and packaging materials.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional training in hazardous materials handling preferred.
  • Experience packaging chemicals, reagents, or laboratory supplies strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOT, IATA, or OSHA hazardous materials regulations a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Hazardous Material Packaging - Package hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, reagents, and laboratory materials according to regulatory and company guidelines.
  • Ensure proper classification, packaging group selection, and compatibility of materials.
  • Apply appropriate hazard labels, markings, and shipping documentation.
  • Verify packaging integrity and compliance with DOT and IATA shipping requirements.
  • Order Fulfillment - Pick, pack, and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure products are packaged to prevent contamination, damage, or leakage during transit.
  • Maintain shipment accuracy and meet daily shipping deadlines.
  • Safety & Compliance - Follow all hazardous materials handling procedures, safety protocols, and environmental guidelines.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hazardous material regulations.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report safety incidents, spills, or packaging concerns immediately.
  • Documentation & Quality Control - Complete required shipping paperwork including manifests, SDS documentation, and regulatory declarations.
  • Verify lot numbers, expiration dates, and product information prior to shipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and shipment records in warehouse systems.
  • Warehouse Operations - Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing hazardous materials and laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain clean and compliant storage areas for hazardous materials.
  • Support inventory counts and general warehouse operations as needed.
