About The Position

Southern Airways/Mokulele is seeking dependable, professional individuals to lead our Maintenance department in our airport station.   This position is based in KOA but must have the ability to travel to other Hawaii based maintenance locations as well as the mainland, as needed.   The Hawaii Aircraft Maintenance Manager will be responsible for overseeing all maintenance-related activities.  The role of a maintenance manager is full-time - a minimum of 40 hours per week based upon schedules and needs. Overtime hours are at management's discretion. As an airline, we are a 24/7 operation and your work schedule may fluctuate in both hours and days, including evenings and weekends.  You must have the ability to work varied shifts, including overnight as needed to ensure oversight of maintenance operations. Additionally, managers are required to answer phone calls/texts/Slack or come into the station/hangar on off hours should the need arise. The ideal candidate: Must provide leadership and direction to maintenance staff. Ensures the effective utilization of personnel and equipment. Serves as the liaison to the corporate headquarters. Must be familiar with and able to enforce corporate and regulatory standards. Has excellent written and verbal communication skills. Professional in appearance and manner and set a good example for staff. Must be experienced in diffusing stressful situations. Must be detail oriented.

Requirements

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant license.
  • Minimumum 5 years of industry experience in a part 121/135/145 operation.
  • Prior supervisory/management experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Be proficient in computer skills such as Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
  • Basic math abilities.
  • Able to work within a 24/7 operation, including holidays and weekends.
  • Must pass a 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screen as required by the company and/or airline regulations.
  • Available for occasional overnight travel.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. per the immigration Act of 1986.
  • Must be comfortable lifting/moving 70lbs.
  • Must have physical dexterity sufficient to perform repetitive tasks and motions, including bending at the waist and knees, squatting, kneeling, crawling, twisting, and sustaining those positions for extended amounts of time.
  • Must have sufficient vision and the ability to safely perform assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and assist assigned Mechanics as necessary to accomplish all maintenance functions, in accordance with company maintenance manuals, policies and procedures, and applicable Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring maintenance management plans to improve uptime and minimize costs.
  • Managing maintenance budgets and ensuring they are in line with legal and safety regulations
  • Hiring, training, and evaluating maintenance workers, and ensuring they meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Communicating regularly with upper management regarding problems or issues impacting production
  • Developing company policies and standard operating procedures
  • Looking for new ways to improve productivity and cut costs
  • Perform On-The-Job technical training on aircraft maintenance practices, company policies, safety procedures and general information where required.
  • Ensure proper and legible completion of all company forms for all work assigned and performed, and correct disposition processing upon completion.
  • Maintain the work areas, buildings and materials, which are, utilized for aircraft maintenance, in a safe, clean and operative condition.
  • When required, sign for his/her own work and co-sign for the work of other Mechanics in the section; however, signing shall not relieve any other Mechanics in the group from the responsibility for the work they performed.
  • Conserve and protect Southern Airways funds, property, equipment and materials.
  • Conserve and protect company funds, property, equipment and materials.
  • Scheduling maintenance tasks, managing maintenance supervisors and technicians, and responding to maintenance emergencies.
  • Has RII and Airworthiness Release Authority.
  • Any other duties as requested by direct reports.
