About The Position

The Hatchery Worker position at Tyson Foods' Hayes Hatchery involves performing a variety of tasks related to hatchery operations. This includes handling chicks (pulling, grading, placing in houses), maintaining equipment (washing trays and machines, starting generators, performing minor maintenance, running embrex machines), and general cleaning duties. The role also requires mixing vaccine and dispensing formaldehyde, which necessitates specific PPE. Workers must be able to perform tasks independently on some shifts and communicate effectively with management and maintenance regarding issues. The job demands significant physical exertion, including lifting, pushing, standing for extended periods, bending, twisting, and maintaining good hand/eye coordination. The work environment can be damp and warm, and safety is a primary concern, requiring the worker to keep their area organized and free of hazards. The schedule is typically Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:30 AM to 8:30 PM, but may vary based on production needs, and weekend and holiday work is sometimes required. Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be able to lift/push 40 plus pounds.
  • Must be able to perform other jobs as requested by management at both hatcheries.
  • Must be able to perform machine checks such as, follow instructions and document findings.
  • Must be able to start generators, and complete some maintenance on machines when issues arise.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must be able to communicate with management and maintenance when issues arise.
  • Must be able to complete task independently.
  • Must be able to stand duration of shift (usually 10 hours with two unpaid 30-minute breaks).
  • Must be able to perform bending, twisting, and turning body from side to side to see and keep up product in work area.
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination.
  • Must be able to perform lifting, pulling, pushing, squatting, climbing, bending, reaching, rolling buggies.
  • Must be able to obtain lockout tagout certification.
  • Must be able to obtain forklift license.
  • Must be able to obtain moffett license.
  • Must wear respirator when dispensing formaldehyde (MUST NOT HAVE A BEARD older than 24 hours and mustache is present then it MUST BE TRIMMED at the corners of your mouth).
  • Must wear PPE ear protection (plugs or muffs), hair bonnet and beard guard (if desired).
  • Must have Water/skid proof footwear.
  • Must be able to use an electric Hand Jack.
