The Hatchery Worker position at Tyson Foods, Hayes Hatchery, involves performing various tasks related to hatchery operations, including handling chicks, operating and maintaining machinery, and ensuring a safe and organized work environment. Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to work in damp/warm conditions
  • Must be able to lift/push 40 plus pounds
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination
  • Must be able to obtain lockout tagout certification
  • Must be able to obtain forklift license
  • Must be able to obtain moffett license
  • Wear PPE ear protection (plugs or muffs), hair bonnet and beard guard (if desired)
  • Must wear respirator when dispensing formaldehyde (MUST NOT HAVE A BEARD older than 24 hours and mustache must be trimmed at the corners of your mouth)
  • Water/skid proof footwear
  • Rehires are subject to a 91-day wait period, determined from their last date of employment, to apply for FRESH PLANT
  • Candidates that have worked for Tyson Foods or Tyson Affiliates 3 or more times will not be eligible for rehire

Responsibilities

  • Perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Perform other duties as tasked by administration
  • Work in damp/warm conditions
  • Lift/push 40 plus pounds
  • Perform other jobs as requested by management at both hatcheries
  • Ensure safety and be responsible for keeping work area free of clutter and/or tripping hazard and always organized
  • Perform machine checks such as, follow instructions and document findings
  • Start generators, and complete some maintenance on machines when issues arise
  • Communicate with management and maintenance when issues arise
  • Complete tasks independently (some shifts may require working alone)
  • Pull chicks
  • Grade chicks
  • Perform breakouts
  • Wash trays and machines
  • Move buggies
  • Clean
  • Place chickens in the houses
  • Mix vaccine
  • Dispense formaldehyde
  • Run embrex machines (which will work various hours and days)
  • Help tray, and set eggs
  • Stand duration of shift (usually 10 hours with two unpaid 30-minute breaks)
  • Bend, twist, and turn body from side to side to see and keep up product in work area
  • Lift, pull, push, squat, climb, bend, reach, roll buggies
