About The Position

The Hatchery Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the Hatchery, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production while meeting animal welfare, food safety, and operational performance standards. This role provides hands-on leadership to supervisors and hourly team members, oversees hatch schedules and throughput, and partners closely with Maintenance, FSQA, Sanitation, and other key teams. The Hatchery Manager plays a key role in driving continuous improvement, enforcing biosecurity and safety protocols, and maintaining a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Leadership experience in a production, manufacturing, agricultural, or hatchery environment
  • Strong people leadership skills with experience supervising, coaching, and developing teams
  • Working knowledge of animal welfare, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to make sound decisions, prioritize effectively, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both hourly and salaried team members; bilingual skills a plus
  • Solid math and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret KPIs and operational data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
  • Professional leadership style grounded in teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all hatchery operations, including egg handling, incubation, hatching, chick grading, vaccination, packing, and shipping
  • Manage weekly hatch schedules to ensure the proper number and quality of birds are delivered to the processing plant
  • Ensure product quality, animal welfare, food safety, sanitation, and team member safety standards are consistently met
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements and encouraging team ownership of results
  • Monitor hatchery KPIs, investigate performance gaps, and take corrective action when targets are not met
  • Investigate chick quality and mortality issues and implement effective, sustainable solutions
  • Enforce biosecurity protocols and lead accident investigations, including corrective and preventative actions
  • Partner with Maintenance to address equipment performance, reliability, and operational issues
  • Lead, train, coach, and evaluate supervisors and team members, including performance reviews and development planning
  • Promote strong communication, teamwork, morale, housekeeping, cost awareness, and cross-functional collaboration
