About The Position

FUNCTION: Assists in the day-to-day operations of the Slaughter Maintenance Department as needed for general upkeep and maintenance of plant operations. This includes but is not limited to the assistance of all areas of the plant, ensuring all aspects of the operation are being adhered to as required by safety and company policies. Must have a working knowledge of the mechanical field with emphasis on troubleshooting, installation of new equipment, repairs and upkeep of existing equipment. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures that all aspects of the company safety policy and procedures are adhered to in the direct and indirect areas of the plant. On a daily basis fills out all safety documentation as required. Ensures that good housekeeping and safe work practices are followed. Directs assigned employees in the performance of approved maintenance work and production operations. Records progress of jobs scheduled and ensures that daily time distribution of employees are properly recorded and reported. Provides immediate response and service to emergency needs in Slaughter Maintenance area Assigns mechanics at the start of and throughout the shift, specific jobs, preventive maintenance, planned work orders and associated maintenance needs. Instructs mechanics in the best job methods, materials, tools and equipment required to accomplish specific jobs. Advises peers of variances from the status of the daily work schedule Recommends equipment to be included in the preventive maintenance program. Assists the Superintendent in developing stocking requirements for spare parts Ensures overtime approval with peers prior to shift schedule Adheres, as closely as possible, to the daily work schedules without wasting manpower or materials. Meets work specifications and quality work standards for each job. Ensures that conduct of personnel assigned with respect to company policy and work rules are adhered. Ensures general mechanics are trained in order to maintain and improve skill level Indoctrinates new personnel and advises Superintendent of training needs Advises superiors and other appropriate members of the engineering department of equipment failure or items requiring excessive maintenance. Ensures on modification or change are made without a valid work order; advises details of changes. Seeks ways to promote conservation of energy. Provides technical assistance to production department on how to best and economically operate equipment. Insures that all aspects of the food safety, HAACP and Government programs are adhered to with emphasis on the continued compliance to these program. All other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical demands of the position may include a great deal of walking and stair climbing Temperature in work area varies depending on where employee is working Must be able to work extended hours as required by peers Potential hazards in work area may include knives, machinery, electricity, ammonia, hydraulics and forklift traffic

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School diploma, GED or equivalent
  • With technical skill training in the mechanical area
  • Minimum of 3-5 years background experience in general industrial maintenance
  • Must have background knowledge in electrical, hydraulic, welding and some PLC training
  • Must be able to read and comprehend all equipment literature that applies to area
