The Hardware Engineering Intern for Leica Biosystems is involved in the design and release of a series of sustainment and value-added value engineering (VAVE) projects for cost reduction, reliability improvement or other general sustainment projects related to Leica Biosystem's product line of Aperio Whole Slide Imaging Scanners This position is part of the Digital Pathology Business Unit located in Vista, CA and will be on-site. At Leica Biosystems, our vision is to advance cancer diagnostics and improve lives. You will be a part of the Hardware Engineering team and report to the Manager, Hardware Engineering. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or similar.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience with CAD technologies, like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar
  • Experience working with complex electromechanical systems
  • Extreme comfort with typical Windows programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc). Bonus points for familiarity with Linux / Unix computer environments.

Responsibilities

  • Performing system-level testing to produce data for use within design of experiments
  • Work with engineering team on various tasks, including but not limited to, machining, electronics, programming, verification & validation and system-level design and troubleshooting
  • Update or refine engineering drawings or processes with the guidance of senior engineers
