About The Position

Energy is turning uninterrupted sunlight in space into abundant energy on Earth wherever it’s needed. Our satellites will collect solar energy 24/7 in geosynchronous orbit and beam it to existing and future solar projects on the ground as safe near-infrared light. Our system will be able to shift power delivery across continents in real time based on demand, without changing infrastructure on the ground. Headquartered in the Metro DC area, we’re backed by The Engine, Lowercarbon Capital, Prime Movers Lab, and others to advance the next generation of clean energy technology. As a Hardware Development Intern at Overview Energy, you will apply your knowledge, leadership, and creativity to help design and build our constellation of next-generation satellites at unprecedented affordability and scale. You will take part in the design, build, and test cycle to validate system characteristics needed for Overview Energy’s first spacecraft system, including tight iteration cycles for reliability, manufacturability, mass reduction, and system cost. This role is paid and requires a commitment of 10 weeks.

  • Experience with 3D CAD and FEA
  • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and hands-on mechanical assembly
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work across multiple projects and design iterations simultaneously
  • U.S. citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 previous internship experiences
  • Experience designing with GD&T and DFM
  • Experience in spacecraft design and manufacturing
  • Experience with CNC machining, 3D printing, or other manufacturing techniques
  • Familiarity with electrical skills such as soldering and basic circuitry
  • Proficiency in a programming language, preferably Python

Responsibilities

  • Utilize cross-disciplinary engineering skills to develop prototypes for both new and ongoing projects and systems within an engineering team
  • Use CAD software (such as SolidWorks or NX) to design parts, assemblies, and components for various projects, ensuring manufacturability and ease of assembly
  • Implement rapid prototyping techniques through design and analysis to drive system trades and inform the overall design of the spacecraft
  • Validate designs and analysis through the completion of environmental and performance tests, maintaining records for future reference and quality control

Benefits
