About The Position

This is a role for a hardware engineer within Viasat Government - Secure Network Systems (SNS) who is eager to contribute to a small, fast-paced team. Design, documentation, implementation, prototyping, and testing of next generation encryption devices on cutting edge high speed or ultra-low power digital circuit boards for Layer 3 In-line Network Encryptors. You will interface and collaborate with system, programmable logic, software, and test engineers as new capabilities are developed and transitioned into service. In addition, you will provide support to production and product support to help support operational networks when support is required from development. You will be responsible for the development and certification of the Next Generation End Cryptographic Unit (ECU) and high assurance Cryptographic High Value Product (CHVP).

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • 5+ years hardware design or sustaining experience
  • Foundational knowledge of analog and digital logic and timing considerations
  • Must be able to prioritize, be detail-oriented, and have history of managing time well to accomplish multiple tasks in parallel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work with a temporally and geographically diverse team
  • Ability to document and report on technical solutions/findings
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office products for documentation creation and modification
  • Familiarity with standard test equipment (i.e., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, power supplies, etc.)
  • Familiarity with production-related processes and common failure modes
  • High aptitude for learning new things
  • Desire to be part of a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and troubleshoot production-related issues
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, take ownership of tasks and results

  • Hands on experience designing complex digital systems (Processors, memory, FPGAs, CPLD, microcontrollers, networking interfaces)
  • Understanding of high speed design techniques (highly preferred)
  • Experience working with DC to DC converters for the variety of internal derived voltages needed in modern microelectronics
  • Experience with schematic creation (Mentor Graphics flow preferred)
  • Experience doing reviews of CAD PWB designs
  • Experience with timing constraints, analyze timing results, and implement design changes required to close timing and translate those constraints into CAD timing constraints
  • Collaboration with large geographically diverse multi-disciplinary teams to create next generation products
  • Prior Generation and collaboration on required design documents, development requirements, specifications and verification protocols
  • Qualification of new design through series of functional, performance and environmental test

Responsibilities
